Counselling with Louise
Working in a person-centred, empathic and relational way, I offer space where you can begin to explore who you really are – not who you ‘want’ to be or think you ‘should’ be. Over time, as the trust and connection builds between us, you may begin to see how past experiences have shaped you. This process is the start of embracing parts of yourself that have been rejected and cast out into the shadows. I offer compassion for all of your wounded parts, until you can find this for yourself.
My Approach
The way I work recognises that what may be troubling you or holding you back in life is 'carrying' the residue of emotional processes which have been unable to complete for some reason. This might be due to the 'shoulds' you have learnt through your early years' experiences (to survive and be accepted) or due to your 'fight-flight' survival mechanism being stuck or blocked - as in trauma. The most important thing, is that you feel comfortable with the style and pace of the work we do together.
Emotions move naturally given the opportunity, so being with you in an 'empathic way' may help yours to do so. Meanwhile, my embodied presence can be a grounding support if you meet challenging emotions. I offer to teach Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) or 'tapping' if it can support you between sessions. This is a powerful energy technique I have used in my own healing of complex relational traumas. But I also aim to be flexible in my approach and can work creatively too.
